Gary Mullen is Professor of Entomology emeritus in the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology at Auburn University, AL, USA. He earned his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in entomology at Cornell University before serving as medical entomologist and administrator of the Pennsylvania Vector Control Program, Allegheny County Health Department, Pittsburgh, PA. He joined the faculty of Auburn University in 1975 as a medical-veterinary entomologist, acarologist, and aquatic ecologist, teaching courses and conducting research at Auburn for 34 years. His major areas of research have focused on biting flies, notably mosquitoes and biting midges, and ticks as vectors of animal pathogensLance Durden is Professor of Vector Ecology and Curator of the Insect Collection in the Department of Biology at Georgia Southern University, Statesboro, USA. He earned a Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of London, UK and has worked at Vanderbilt School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee, the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC, Auburn University in Alabama, and the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) in Frederick, Maryland. He is the author or co-author of approximately 300 peer-reviewed publications including 24 book chapters and 7 books or monographs. The style of the text makes for easy reading, which is not to say that the information was the least bit "dumbed down." I am glad that I bought and read Medical and Veterinary Entomology.

Good Shape!

Lots of errors—mostly typos, but makes me wonder if I’m memorizing false information.

This textbook is very easy to read and understand. It is laid out in manner that makes sense and is easy to follow along with. The images go well with the text. My one caution, however, is that you don't try to use solely this book for insect morphology. It discusses mouthparts and other details related to disease/parasite infection and transmission, and it does not explain the morphological differences between insect species within the same family or order. I would recommend this text to any veterinary or medical student!

This textbook is a must have in the med/vet entomology field. Good basic information on a wide variety of important arthropod pests.

As a Pre-Vet student I use this book quite a bit for my Livestock Entomology class. The pictures are pretty awsome! I really think this is a good investment if your an entomology fan or in a class. I also like that the insect orders are broken into different chapters. I currently finished a lab on dog heartworm and this book has a chapter on mosquitoes which was very helpful to me! Overall a very good buy!
