Years ago, someone recommended that I read Betrayed. My husband’s family is Jewish, so this person assumed I would be interested in the author’s testimony. Well, they were right. After hearing the author, Stan Telchin, on a radio program, I was hooked. I could not wait to discover what drove this Jewish man to embrace Jesus as his Messiah. I was captivated as I read that when he learned his college age daughter had become a Christian, he was determined to disprove the New Testament. Through much prayer, study and passion for truth, Stan realized that he needed to turn his life over to Jesus in repentance and faith. His story is so engaging that it is hard to put down. He includes a great list of fulfilled Messianic prophecy in the back of the book. I have since learned that his youngest daughter, Ann, makes claims contrary to Telchin’s testimony. She says they are not the happy family portrayed in the book. Jesus said in Matthew 10:34-36 that houses would divide over him, so it certainly comes as no surprise that the Telchin family members are not all on the same page concerning the gospel.

Great book that tugs at your heart as you read about Stan's journey to become a Christian. Very thought provoking to think about how we gentile Christians have held stereotypes - from a Jewish perspective. This book will go a long way to changing them. Definitely an inspiration to believers.

Betrayed is a good book for people who are interested in sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with Jewish people who have yet to come to faith in Him. I have purchased this book several times; the first time for myself. Since then, i have given it to a number of Jewish people while praying for them to know their Saviour. This time I purchased it for my Pastor's birthday because he has a heart for Israel and the Jewish people. It is an account of Stan Telchin whose daughter was the first one in the family to become a believer. After he received that news, Stan searched the Scriptures to disprove his daughter's claims only to discover that she was correct. If I write any more, it will give the rest of the story away. Betrayed! is a fast and interesting read that captures your attention and holds your interest.

For Christian readers, the conversion process described is rather predictable but still presented in an informative, interesting fashion with good scriptural referencing. I suspect the companion book, "Abandoned: What is God's Will for the Jewish People and the Church," would be more interesting. For Jewish readers, the challenge will be getting past their already-engrained, predisposition to never explore the subject of the possible validity of Christ. It will take a more objective, courageously-interested Jew to read this book through than I have yet to meet in my 76 years, but I pray that they would do so.

Although I am a gentile, I have a deep interest in Jewish evangelism. When I talk to Jews about their Messiah, I like to offer a book for further reading. I have found that Isaiah 53 Explained (Mitch Glaser) is a wonderful Jewish story that the average Jew easily identifies with. Betrayed I heard about earlier, but never read but now have completed...Now I have another book to offer a Jewish seeker, a book that is an easy and entertaining read. I also can recommend Moishe Rosen's: Y'shua - The Jewish way to say Jesus, although Moise's fame sometimes predisposes a Jewish reader to reject it without reading. What is so exciting about Betrayed is Stan's initial negativity, which provokes a through research of scripture to refute his daughter's turn toward Messiah Yeshua.

Was looking for book about challenging family problems and this book really brought out the tough decision of a father, mother and daughter religion conflict.

Very interesting story if you like to hear true stories of how Jewish people came to have a faith in Jesus. I think Stan just died last year, ('12) but I actually emailed him a few years ago to ask him some questions about sharing my faith with Jewish non-believers. He was most gracious to reply to my email. Sadly one of his daughters has put some scandalous things on the internet about her dad, but it is NOT the daughter that this book is about. Every family has it's issues and I was sad to see that his daughter chose to air her dirty laundry on the internet. I admire Stan and was sad to hear of his passing.

First, I want to say that I am thrilled that Mr. Telchin, through his own private, intensive study, found God.Secondly, I can recommend this book because it contains all the ingredients (conflict, suspense, satisfactory resolution) needed for a good read. It was a good overview of how one man was made to examine his personal beliefs and whether those beliefs were based on sound reasoning or not. It was so engrossing, I finished the book in less than a day! However, what I found incredible was how Judaism was represented in this book. The Jewish rabbis never had any competent answers for Mr. Telchin. Any questions he had were answered either by more concentrated study or by his newly found Gentile Christian friends. Is this really representative of Judaism at large? Is Judaism really that superficial, with professing adherents lacking so much in knowledge and substance?I think the book would have been more convincing had Mr. Telchin's faith not been so sketchy to begin with. The more skeptical reader will find this a major weakness of the book. The chapter I found most interesting (the subject of which I want to study further) was Chapter 10 entitled "What Happened to the Early Believers?" In it, Mr. Telchin gives a VERY brief summary of how a cult that was almost exclusively composed of Jewish believers in the beginning slowly transformed into a religion now mainly practiced by Gentiles and viscerally shunned by its original proponents.
